The days of watching movies on the cheap via the Web may soon be over.

Time Warner Cable and U.S. pay-TV companies, weighing how to profit from surging Internet demand spurred by Netflix and Hulu, are on the verge of instituting new fees on Web-access customers who use the most data.

At least one major cable operator will institute usage-based billing next year, predicts Craig Moffett, an analyst with Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. in New York. He said Cox Communications, Charter Communications or Time Warner Cable may be first to charge Web-access customers for the amount of data they consume, not just transmission speed.

“As more video shifts to the Web, the cable operators will inevitably align their pricing models,” Moffett said. “With the right usage-based pricing plan, they can embrace the transition instead of resisting it.”

U.S. providers have weighed usage-based plans for years as a way to squeeze more profit from Web access, and to counter slowing growth and rising program costs in the TV business. While customer complaints hampered earlier attempts, pay-TV companies are testing usage caps and price structures that point to the advent of permanent fees.

According to media researcher SNL Kagan, about 12.1 million U.S. households will receive TV shows and movies from Internet services rather than a traditional pay TV provider by 2015, up from 2.5 million homes at the end of 2010.

Cable’s best option is to find ways to profit from the online shift, said Moffett. If the companies were to lose all of their video customers, the revenue decline would be more than offset by a lower programming fees and set-top box spending.

In the end, it will be the best thing that ever happened to the cable industry,” Moffett said.

financi4 answers:

U is for union
1. S U F U G = S + F + G – (S intersect F) – (S intersect G) – (F intersect G) + S intersect F intersect G = 204 + 170 + 144 – 39 – 23 – 20 + 3 = 439

2. = S + F + G – 2 (S INTERSECT G) – 2 (S INTERSECT F) – 2(F INTERSECT G) + 3 (S INTERSECT F INTERSECT G) = 204 + 170 + 144 – 2 (39) – 2(23) – 2(20) + 3 (3) = 363

3. = 530 – (S U F U G) = 530 -439 = 91

4. 8 C 5 = 56

5. S U B U M = S + B + M – S INTERSECT B – S INTERSECT M – B INTERSECT M – S INTERSECT B INTERSECT M

422 = 282 + 204 + 179 – 116 – 107 – 102 + S INTERSECT B INTERSECT M

S INTERSECT B INTERSECT M = 422 – 340 = 82

6. 13 C 5 = 1,287

7. Combination of 3 kings = 4 C 3 = 4; Pair = 4 C 2 = 6 times 12 ( from ace to queen) = 288

William asks…

Is it okay for a 38-year-old man to date a woman who is almost 20 and without legal status in the country?

So I know this East Asian guy. He is close to 40. Single. Never married. No kids. And he is dating a woman who is almost 20. (Okay, she is really 19.)

It is not like he is a loser or something. He went to top-ranked schools, (i.e., Stanford for Computer Science and Economics, and then MIT for MBA,) graduated summa cum laude and magna cum laude . Has a great job, and have a consulting business on the side. He earned well over $240,000 in 2010. Owns his own home. Owns stocks and bonds. Owns rental and commercial properties, (some in the US, some in Asia.) He even just bought a small yacht. He has terrific credit score and has no credit card debt. He plays the piano and violin. Speak seven different languages, (i.e., English, Mandarin/Cantonese, Korean, Japanese, Spanish, German, Russia.) He has never smoked and never used drugs. He does not even drink.

The only vices he has is that he plays too much video game and spend too much money on buying gadgets and toys (for his age,) and he is a bit short (he is 5’9″.) He stays in shape and work out twice or thrice weekly.

Why isn’t he married or dating a woman his own age? For whatever reasons unknown, women were never really interested in him when he was younger. Maybe he was socially awkward, (but he has outgrown his shyness;) or maybe he spent his 20s and early 30s working and working; or maybe he is Asian, and the dating scene back in the 1990s and early 2000s was not particularly receptive to Asian men (unless they just wanted to date Asian women.)

The problem is the women his age are usually divorcees, single mothers, or have too much baggage; and he believes he deserves better. Although he likes cute kids, he really, really does not want to deal with single mothers or another man’s kids. He wants kids someday, but just not other men’s kids. For whatever reasons, he did not date a lot in his 20s and early 30s. Now that he has finally started to look around, all the good women his age are gone. It seems like he is surrounded by single women who are divorcees or single moms, and it is depressing.

The women his age also do not share any interest with him. The women his age do not play video games or know anything about the video game culture, do not go to Lady Gaga concerts or comic con.

Which brings us to the girl he is dating right now. They met through an online gaming session, and then they arranged to meet at a Lady Gaga concert. So they already have plenty of similar interests right there. They even like the same genres of video games, music, movies, and same types of foods and toys. She also loves video games and technology. And, honestly, she is young and much hotter than the women his age, and hotness play a huge factor. What guys don’t want to be with a hot girl?

They have been together for over a year. (So they met when she was 18.) The problem is that he has not told any friend or anyone in his family (who are mostly old women) about the girl. Honestly, I think the age gap really bothers him more than it bothers her, but it bothers him more and more as the relationship becomes more and more serious. But EVERYTHING ELSE is just great. He has never felt happier and younger when he is with her.

Also, the girl is from South America and she is not a resident in the United States. (Although you would not be able to tell she is not an American just by looking at and talking to her.) Just a couple week ago, he has (pretending to be joking) talk about the prospect of marrying her and petition for her legal status, and she is very receptive. You may think she may be using him for green card, but honestly he is okay with that. Because he thinks he is still getting the better deal in this whole relationship.

The problem is the… the age issue. He is really really afraid/embarrassed to met her parents or introduce her to his mom and friends because she is so young, even though he really loves her. The legal status issue they can just keep it to themselves, but the age issue is obvious. So what should he do about it??

financi4 answers:

Age is just a number. Most people dont agree. They think that older people cant date younger people becase thats wrong. But i dont find anything wrong with it when there’s love in between. There ofcoures well always be poeple out there trying to separate whats called love. But the chains are so stong no one can break it apart but the person who’s in the relartionship. Were not iternal so why not ejoy the great things that come to us. It can be a little hard for an older man to date a young person but its more harder to let them go for just the age. From what you wrote i find the guy very cool. No drugs, no alcohol. I would say the girl got lucky despite of the age. Depsite of what everyone says. No one has the righ to break someone apart becase one person is older and the other perosn is younger. I think they should proudly say they are in love and ejoy life becase no one knows of the day we just might die. Anyway hoiped i helped.

John asks…

If a U.S. economic crises can affect Europe, can a European debt crises affect the United States?

Also, the United States govt. is currently operating on a “too big to fail” doctrine. But at what point will the U.S. govt. start having a debt crises?? (I mean other countries are EVENTUALLY going to realize we have no intention/means to pay any of these debt off, right??)

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100428/ap_on_bi_ge/eu_europe_financial_crisis

BERLIN – Europe’s debt crisis mushroomed Wednesday as Spain saw its credit rating lowered, just as Germany sought to reassure nervous investors that Greece would not be allowed to go under, saying Berlin’s share of a key aid package could be approved in the next few days.

Stock and bond markets had begun to regain their composure after stinging downgrades of Greece and Portugal the day before, when Standard & Poors delivered more bad news by cutting Spain’s rating to AA from AA+ amid concerns about the country’s growth prospects following the collapse of a construction bubble.

“We now believe that the Spanish economy’s shift away from credit-fuelled economic growth is likely to result in a more protracted period of sluggish activity than we previously assumed,” Standard & Poor’s credit analyst Marko Mrsnik said.

Spain is considered the key to whether Europe’s debt crisis can be resolved — its economy is much larger than that of Greece and Portugal and — many in the markets postulate — may be just too big to bail out if it gets into serious trouble.

Though its overall debt burden is fairly modest at around 53 percent of national income, the country is running a high budget deficit and has done less than others to get a handle on its public finances.
pilip……….”y don’t we all forgive each others’ debts and start from zero?”

I don’t think there will be much forgiving, but we are definitely going back to zero at some point. (Kinda creepy when you consider what people like McKenna have been saying for decades)

financi4 answers:

The US will affected on the trading side of business. American exports will cost more to Europeans because the Euro is continually sliding in value against the US dollar despite the massive debt we have. All American companies that export to Europe will be hurt. The entire European Union is going to go into a recession. We will see in the coming months how it will affect us. The US dollar will still go down in value still which will cause our own problems, but Europe will not be the reason for our collapse.

I am only in CP… I am going to take Honors classes and maybe, but probably not AP classes next year. I want to do something in business. I will probably get a bachelor’s in accounting for business experience and I would like to be a stock broker or bond trader. Please help I am worried about getting into a good college!
