David asks…

Should I put this on my resume if I want this job?

I want to apply for a Portfolio Management Associate job (junior PM) and I don’t have any professional investment experience, but I have been trading options for about two years now. I learned it through Investools education and learned about basic stocks, advanced tech analysis and options. I have 10 years of other financial experience though. I have a degree in Retail Merchandising, but they want a degree in finance, econ or accounting.

Justin answers:

List it all. You may find the required degree is only desirable as opposed to mandatory. Past experience can far out weigh pieces of paper. Go for it and good lick

Mark asks…

Has anyone taken the Investools classes? Did you get your money’s worth & are you successful at investing?

I just went to the free introductory seminar for Investools last week and want to go through the training. I can’t take the classes yet until I save the $2,000. I believe the tools will probably work, but I want to hear how the training has helped someone else who has gone through it. I’m a beginning investor who is just starting out with $500 and I research stocks and read the charts on free websites. I use the Phil Town “Rule #1” investment strategies, which I’ve found out are very much the same as what Investools teaches. Will the classes be worth it?

Justin answers:

There’s not much point, when you can learn all you need to know for free from sites such as:
http://www.fool.com/school/basics/basics.htm
http://www.investopedia.com
http://www.everyinvestor.co.uk

and not waste money you could have better spent putting it towards stock & opening an account @ Sharebuilder.com
